There is no such thing as a bad movie, speech, book, text, interaction
You hear this a lot:
- “Stupid movie.”
- “Bad movie.”
- “Stupid bad movie.”
- “Bad:
- Text.
- Book.
- Interaction.
- Speech.”
You hear this a lot:
I want to be a good presenter; so, when Al GORE said in “An inconvenient truth” (2006) that he has held the speech / presentation in the movie for more than 1,000 times, I looked for some methods he used; I will not speak in the blog post about the message itself, but about how it was said; when seeing the movie, do remember that Al GORE is a successful politician, so he, in theory, should have the ability to hold a very good speech. +Continue Reading
There are two insights I’ve got from Barry Lyndon (1975):
I saw “Jesus Christ Superstar“, a musical by Andrew Lloyd WEBBER, with lyrics by Tim RICE. It was a 2006 interpretation of the famous rock opera. The show was made by Adrian PINTEA and his students. My feed-back comes today, 5 years after. +Continue Reading
Hmmm, now that’s a dilemma – how to watch a movie trailer? My solution – don’t. On the positive side, what you’ll get is, at most:
- Understanding the subject of the movie;
- Seeing some special effects;
- Getting an idea on what the most intense emotions in the movie are (if there’s laughter, you’ll probably be amused by the trailer; if it’s action, you’ll see some action).
On the other hand, on the negative side, what you’ll lose is actually the very first thing you win:
- Understanding the subject of the movie.
I don’t want to know what the movie is about. Let me be surprised. Let me discover the movie. Sorry, no movie trailers fan in here.
Coming back to the question in the title: “How to watch movie trailers?” Well, don’t. At all.
I like the movie “A few good men” (1992) quite a lot, it’s one of my favorite movies, though not as much as “Le notti di Cabiria” (1957). +Continue Reading

Last week I was at a conference at National Peasant’s Museum. Costi ROGOZANU put a question to the audience that really struck me: How much of you is really Romanian? How many of the things that define you come from Romania? How do you spend your time in a Romanian-specific way? How much of the music you listen to, of the books you read, of the web sites you visit are from Romania? I think that the question was a mere discovery-inducing one, it meant nothing on love-your-country idea (he didn’t specifically ask us to be patriots, he just put an intriguing question to think about). +Continue Reading

I’ll talk on this blog about things I recommend. Some things to do, some people to meet. But this blog post is about something to see: a movie. Perhaps I’m not clear with this. It’s not just a movie, it’s the movie. Warning: Spoilers ahead! +Continue Reading
