Why changing the scenery is fine?

Most of the times, I find little value in travelling just to see things; but changing the scenery, this is fine;

What do I mean with this?

  • Some people prefer to travel by paying lots of money to see places;
  • On the other hand, I like to see lots of things, without travelling a lot;

Bottom line:

  • I don’t find tourism very agreeable;
  • On the other hand, taking a walk at various events in Bucharest – now, this is more than fine.
And you?

On emigration

When people decide to stay / leave a country, there mostly two factors for taking a decision:
- How will my past be? For those with a look on the past, history, family, ancestors matter; to some the link to past is longer (historical figures & episodes), to others is shorter (past friends, neighbors, co-workers);
- How will my life be, if I chose to shape it the way I want to? The question in this situation is mostly related to this – “If I were to pick a country to be born in, would I still pick Romania?”; if no, one may chose to pick a new country, or keep it, if there are some links to the past or some trouble in getting in the new country;

Pragmatically, I think changing a country may be similar to keeping/changing a subway train route – it’s more comfortable if you keep it, but you can get a better deal if you change it.

Emotionally, there’s this link to the past which gets things complicated.

On keeping the subway

I told you before about Changing subways. Now I’ll come with a different perspective. You shouldn’t change some things.

Examples:

  • I wanted to buy a camera; I bought Ce aparat foto are un blogger ca mine? and I was very happy with the decision; prior to buying it, I did some research, and now I stick with the camera;
  • Prior to moving to where I live now, I did some market research, and got to my current place; I’ve been here since 2005;
  • In Bucharest you can travel by bus, tramway, trolleybus or via metro; I chose metro and more than 90% of all my public transportation means are via metro;
  • I chose to live healthy, and even now I do some sports (or at least I move in the city a lot by foot) and eat healthy;
  • I have old friends, chose not to change them;
  • I do Search Engine Optimization since 2007 and still do it today.

Conclusion? Sometimes it’s best to switch things; fast; but other times, you just have to stick to things to yield some results; and prior research to buying / getting something is great.

On changing subways

This is a minor theme, yet important enough for my life to approach it – should you change a subway if you can follow the same route, without the need to change it? +Continue Reading

I’m a different person at different times

I age – this is obvious; but I also change my thinking, and this is not that obvious; I become better (I hope), or at least different; today, I’m not the person I was one year ago; I forget things, discover new things, have new patterns; this is why I blog – it helps me determine how am I thinking today and I can read this message 20 years from now; it’s a good exercise.

Self-development – how to do it?

I just got it – I moved from Năvodari to Bucharest in 2001:

  • Was it uncomfortable? You bet; the first three months in Bucharest, alone, for the first time in my life very responsible of things, were hell;
  • Was it life-changing? At first no; on the long-term, it was one of the most life-changing experiences in my life.
Solution from above: force change; you may not like it, you may not get the desired results at the beginning; keep doing it and you will change (most likely, for the better); it’s quite simple.

Here are some small thoughts on my (rather non-)aggression. +Continue Reading
